Welcome to Third Grade!
We, Mrs. Kryshak and Miss Di Cesare are delighted to have your students in our classrooms. It is a thrilling year, packed with a tremendous amount of learning. Your child will grow in many areas. We expect your child to make good decisions, solve their problems and show respect to themselves and others each and every day.
Your child will be expected to complete homework each night, Monday through Thursday. Homework is given to review skills and concepts learned in class, and to build responsibility in work completion and returning completed homework to school. In addition to the homework, your child should be reading nightly for a minimum of 20 minutes. Our goal is that they learn to enjoy chapter books, and become lifelong readers.
Third graders are making the transition from learning to read, to reading to learn. Building vocabulary is an essential first step to understanding and comprehending. Third grade is a big year for memorizing and learning multiplication and division facts. To be successful, students must practice their facts! Flash cards will be sent home, and should be reviewed nightly.
As a prerequisite for the upper grades, students need a strong writing foundation. We will be working on writing strong sentences and organized paragraphs, as well as summaries and narratives.
Schedules:
Music (Recorders) – Fridays
Students should have their recorder and music folder in their backpacks.
PE – Students should be dressed appropriately for physical activity and may bring water bottles.
We are already off to a wonderful start with your students and know that the rest of the year will be a positive one full of meeting challenges, finding success, and growing both academically and socially.
