Welcome to the Newhall School District!
NSD encourages students to attend their neighborhood “home” school as determined by the student’s home address. If you are unsure of your child’s home school, please use our School Locator for assistance.
District Transfers FAQs
If you have any questions regarding transfers, enrollment, or registration, please contact Rosana Valadez at 661-291-4163 or by email.
Intradistrict Transfers (Open Enrollment)
-
An intradistrict transfer/open enrollment is when parents/guardians wish to enroll their student(s) at a school other than the designated "home" school that is in their attendance area within the District.
All intradistrict transfer applications within the open enrollment window will be treated with equal priority. Approval is subject to space availability in the district, at a school site, grade level, or within a specific program. An approved transfer into the District may not result in attendance at the site requested. In the event there are more requests than spots available, a waiting list for the school will be established.
Impacted schools (defined by schools that have higher enrollment than projected enrollment thus considered at full capacity) may not have additional spots. See NSD Board Policy 5116.1: Students.
Intradistrict (Open Enrollment) Registration
The window for 2025-26 open enrollment transfer requests for existing students is January 21, 2025, through February 28, 2025.
If you are a resident of the Newhall School District with a student currently attending a school and are interested in attending a school in NSD that is not your home school, please contact your school of residence for application forms.
If you are a resident of the Newhall School District with a NEW enrollment and are interested in attending a school in NSD that is not your home school, you must first enroll your child at your home school. You may request an open enrollment application form from the school site once enrollment is complete.
If you have applied to the Dual Language Immersion program or Junior Kindergarten program, please do not submit the open enrollment form until notified of the status of your application.
Families will be notified in writing if their open enrollment request was approved or denied no later than the first week in April. If approved, parents must provide transportation to the selected school.
NSD does NOT require annual renewal of intradistrict transfer permits.
Interdistrict Transfers
-
An interdistrict transfer is when parents/guardians wish to enroll their student(s) at a school outside of the Newhall School District.
TRANSFERS TO NSD FROM ANOTHER OUTSIDE DISTRICT
If you are a resident of another district but would like to attend a school in the Newhall School District, please go to your home district and complete an interdistrict transfer request. If approved, the transfer request will be sent to NSD. One application per student is required. You will be notified by NSD if your transfer is accepted based on available space at your requested school site. The District begins accepting transfer requests in mid-February for the following school year. Transfer requests for the current year are accepted on an ongoing basis.
Approval is subject to space availability in the district, at a school site, grade level, or within a specific program. An approved transfer into the District may not result in attendance at the site requested. If approved, parents must provide transportation to the selected school.
NSD does NOT require annual renewal of Inter District transfer permits.
The interdistrict transfer agreement may be revoked at any time by the District for the following reasons:- Student is excessively tardy or absent from school, or student is brought to school excessively early or left excessively late.
- Student has poor academic performance.
- Student fails to uphold appropriate behavior standards.
- Insufficient space in the school and/or grade level.
- False or misleading information was provided.
- Student or parents fail to follow school rules.
Failure of a parent to adhere to the timelines established by the District shall be deemed an abandonment of the transfer request. See Board Policy 5117: Interdistrict Attendance

Please fill out and submit an interdistrict transfer form to Rosana Valadez at the District Office. Once approved by NSD, it is the parent's responsibility to obtain approval from the requested district.
