    Ms. Armstrong – Assistant Principal

Ms. Armstrong has worked for the Newhall School District since 2001.  She is very excited to serve the school community of Oak Hills Elementary.  Before working as a site administrator, Ms. Armstrong enjoyed her role as a classroom teacher at Stevenson Ranch Elementary for grades first through fifth.  She was a member of the District Writing Committee and worked collaboratively with other colleagues to plan and conduct professional development for teachers throughout the district.  Ms. Armstrong served the families of Wiley Canyon as the assistant principal before making her way to Oak Hills.

Ms. Armstrong has a passion for creating authentic relationships with students, staff, and family members of the community.  Her favorite place continues to be in the classrooms supporting teachers and students in creating a “growth mindset approach” to lifelong learning.   Ms. Armstrong believes that learning is the chief priority for all students and continuous program improvement promotes true scholars and productive citizens that will be successful.

Mrs. Van Gelderen – Assistant Principal

Mrs. Van Gelderen is very excited to join the Oak Hills community as one of our Assistant Principals this school year.  She is looking forward to meeting and working with our amazing staff, students, and families.

Mrs. Van Gelderen has spent the past 16 school years working here in the Newhall School District. Her teaching career started at Old Orchard and over the years, taught 1st, 2nd and 6th grades.  She, then, served as an Instructional Math Coach working throughout the Newhall School District. During that time, Mrs. Van Gelderen had the good fortune to work with the teachers and students here at Oak Hills. Most recently, she has served as the Assistant Principal at Meadows, Oak Hills, and Pico Canyon Elementary schools.

Mrs. Van Gelderen’s personal mission is to cultivate a lifelong love of learning for all; students, staff, and families while providing a positive, nurturing environment for our entire Oak Hills community so we all feel safe enough to take scholarly risks and persevere successfully in our efforts. She feels awfully lucky having the opportunity to return to this community as this culture already embodies these ideas.

When she’s not at school, you can find Mrs. Van Gelderen with her family enjoying their time together- most likely cheering her children on at a swim meet or basketball game. Her family loves to read, travel, bake and laugh together. Please know her door is always open, and she looks forward to partnering with all of you.
